AMIR RAMSES | 36 MIN | EGYPT | 2004
A documentary about Eltanbura Musical Troupe. In 1989, Zakaria Ibrahim founded the Tanbura musical troupe trying to revive the folkloric music of semsemia of Port Said, using at the same time an instrument called “ Tanbura” which was related to “ elzar” (an Egyptian folkloric ceremony that used to be practiced to kick out demons and ghosts). To make this troupe come true, he gathered some of the old singers and musicians of Port Said who used to play their music in gatherings in the streets called “Dama”. The film tries to enter the world of this music which reflects a strong relation with the history of Port said full of important events like the war in 1956 , the emigration of the citizens of the city after the defeat of 1967.
